ARTS AND CRAFTS
In Haitian society, arts and crafts are an essential part of daily life and cultural identity.
Many of the products used every day — such as baskets, mats, hats, and household items — are carefully woven from straw, palm leaves, or natural fibers, and remain in high demand across the country.
Fabrics are also handwoven and crafted into clothing, providing both protection from the tropical sun and a source of income for local families.
At Remember the Children of South East (RCSE), we believe that introducing children to Haitian arts and craftsmanship is not only about preserving culture but also about developing lifelong skills that can create economic opportunities.
Through hands-on training with skilled artisans and teachers, children in our program learn creativity, patience, and practical techniques that can one day help them support themselves and their families.
By valuing traditional crafts, RCSE empowers the next generation to build a bridge between heritage and self-sufficiency, keeping Haitian culture alive through the work of their own hands.
